My 2018 Goals

This is the first post I’m making in the category of my goals. Because 2018 already started (we’re already 5 months in) I’m only going to talk about my most important goals.

Here are my most important goals of 2018:

  • Earn €1.000,- per month online by the end of July 2018.
  • Move to Bali on 26 September.
  • Become a vegan before 31 December 2018.
  • Go on a 7-day meditation retreat before 31 December 2018.
  • Reading at least 24 books before 31 December 2018.
  • Start a Merch by Amazon side hustle in September 2018.
  • Donate €25,- per month to a charity in 2018.
  • Make 10 like-minded friends (digital nomads, self-development, and loving human beings) before 31 December 2018.

Earn €1.000,- Per Month Online By The End Of July 2018

This is, with the goal of moving to Bali, the most important goal in my life right now.

I’ve been willing to move out of this place, for almost 2 years now, so that I can become entirely independent. I’ve tried a lot of different options to move out, but I can only pay a single room here (in The Netherlands) which means I’ll live together with students who drink every day. As I don’t want to get myself into that kind of a situation, I have to upgrade my earnings and move out of here to start the adventure.

This goal will also help me to work towards financial freedom. One of my financial goals is to become financially free by making passive income from different income streams. Now, I know freelance writing isn’t passive at all, but I can eventually create a writing agency around it and hire other people to do it for me if I want to.

At the moment I’m just focusing on making money online as fast as possible, so I have enough to live with.

I bought the location rebel course at the beginning of April to start working towards my digital nomad lifestyle. At the end of April, I started my blog to really start everything. Now a month further, I’m constantly pitching to other companies to get some writing gigs.

I have made €0,00 so far. Amazing, isn’t it?

The first client is always the hardest they say, I’ll keep going anyway.

One tip for you, to put some pressure on yourself:

“Tell everyone what your goal is, your family, your friends, your mom. This way you’ll feel more pressured to achieve your goal because if you don’t, well, you know how that’s going to feel, don’t you?”

Move To Bali On 26 September

As I said, this goal is very important to me.

The reasons why I want to move out so badly are:

  1. Because here at home it’s not a healthy situation + it’s a very negative environment.
  2. Because I’m 19 years old and I first have to become independent to become interdependent again. Becoming completely independent also means growing as a human being for me.

I’ve already figured out how to arrange the VISA to stay there for at least 6 months. After that, I’ll have to leave Bali or find another way to stay there. But we’ll see when the time comes.

Finding a house there shouldn’t be hard either. I’ve seen a website for rental homes in Bali, and I think I’ll couch surf the first week to connect with some people and maybe find rentals through them.

Regarding the city I’ll go to, I still have to decide between Ubud, Canggu or Sanur.

My goal is to leave on 26 September, so to create some urgency for myself I’ll buy a one-way ticket to Bali at the beginning of next month. This way I’ll have to be confronted with the ticket every day which will push me to work harder.

Become A Vegan Before 31 December 2018

I want to become a vegan because:

  • I want to feel more connected with nature
  • I want to end the suffering and pain of the animals we eat
  • I want to stop the killing of animals altogether
  • I want to feel more energized throughout the day
  • I want to be healthier

I know the killing of animals will probably not happen in the short run, but if I want to change something, I have to be the change.

I first thought, “How am I going to gain muscle while being vegan?” Because I would also like to compete in natural bodybuilding soon.

Then I searched the web and saw all kind of things that evaporated the thoughts of not being able to gain muscle. You have Dr. Graham with his book The 80/10/10 DietAnd you have Wade Lightheart who is a vegan bodybuilder. So, that opened my eyes and convinced me of becoming vegan. As well as the video ‘Thousand Eyes’ which made me close to crying.

I’ve already put together a list of foods of which my diet consists. I’ll only need to put it all together into a daily meal plan and then buy the foods.

I’ll probably make a post about veganism, more on that later.

Go On A 7-Day Meditation Retreat Before 31 December 2018

This is a spiritual goal of mine for this year, and I’ve already spent a lot of time on it.

I first wanted to do it via Vipassana which is an organization that organizes these retreats all over the world. In Europe, where I live, a lot of the planned meditation retreats are already full of applicants which means there’s no place for me.

I will have to look into that when I move to Bali and see if I can do it there at a Vipassana center. If that’s still not possible, I’ll rent an Airbnb or prepare my home for a meditation retreat. Planning everything beforehand.

I found a handy article on this if you want to try it for yourself. It’s called Manifest Your Own Meditation Retreat — Without Leaving Home’ by Kim Roberts.

Either way, I’m going to make it happen!

Reading At Least 24 Books Before 31 December 2018

Every year I increase the number of books I want to read. In 2017 I wanted to read 12 books, and I achieved that. This year I want to read 24, and I’m currently at 8 for this year.

I know I need to increase my time spent on reading, so that’s why I also put it into my weekly goals. I’m struggling with reading the book Autobiography of a Yogi (Self-Realization Fellowship). It’s a very long book, but I wanted to read it because I was interested in the yoga aspect. I’m doing yoga 2 times a day now, and I want to dive deeper into yoga.

In the book, he talks a lot about the Hindu religion, in which I’m not necessarily interested. But one thing that I find interesting with religion is the similarities they have. Eventually, it all comes down to the same thing. We’re all infinite beings having a human experience.

Nonetheless, I’m going to increase the time spent on reading, so instead of reading about 20 minutes a day, I’m going to try to raise it to 1 hour a day.

Start A Merch By Amazon Side Hustle In September 2018

Have you ever bought a course because you thought it would be cool to learn it and try it? Well, I did the same with a Merch by Amazon course.

As I said earlier, I want to have enough passive income from different income streams so that I can be financially free and focus on things that matter in life.

When I’m all settled down in Bali, and everything is routine, I’ll start doing Merch by Amazon as a side hustle.

I actually designed 1 shirt on my own without taking the course. It was just a funny and simple idea, no one bought it yet though.

The only thing I’ll have to do when I try this out is going through the course and apply the knowledge.

Donate €25,- Per Month To A Charity In 2018

This is something I immediately do at the beginning of a new month because I feel this is one of the only ways for me to contribute at the moment.

I think that everyone should at least invest 5% of their income in charities because it’s a way of giving back to this world.

For me, €25,- is 6.25% of my income, so I think I’m doing pretty good in that aspect.

Although I could use every bit of money in this period of my life, there are still people out there who even have a hard time with just staying alive. That’s also one of the reasons why I joined UNICEF to volunteer.

I believe that everyone in this world wants to make it a better place, maybe deep down somewhere, but I know you do.

I’m easily going to achieve this goal, and I’ll probably make it a part of my monthly financial plan. It’s always one of the first things I like to do, it gives me a sense of purpose and meaning.

Make 10 Like-Minded Friends/Connections (Digital Nomads, Bloggers, Self-Development And Loving Human Beings) Before 31 December 2018

Last but not least, making friends! This is a part of my life I’ve been struggling with a lot.

I have (or had) a lot of friends I would hang out with every day. Then I came to the realization they were doing things on a daily basis I wouldn’t want to do.

We also had very different life visions and goals. So I kind of let the relationships die so that I could focus more time on myself and others that are like-minded.

I’ve already found a buddy via a facebook group with whom I have a weekly call now, updating each other on our most important goals. But I think I have to expand my network a lot if I want to accelerate my progress.

“If you’re the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room.”

Something I’m going to do in the couple weeks for this goal is reaching out to the communities (facebook groups and forums) I’m a part of to see if anyone wants to start a mastermind.

When I move to Bali, I’ll also go to the spots where digital nomads hang out so I can connect with them.

Up To A Wonderful Year

Those are my 2018 goals!

I think all these goals are very doable and I’ve thought very deeply about these goals before even setting them. Although my ‘escape plan’ from home first consisted of web shops. Now it’s writing, something I’ve always known I wanted to do ‘eventually’.

“The perfect time to start something never arrives. START NOW!”

Let me know what you think of my goals, maybe you have any experience with one or more of these goals and would like to let me know something? Perhaps you’re even able to help me or want to work on the same goal together?

Whatever it is, let me know! I’m open to everything!
